Introduction

  • Warm up exercises to switch into English mode

The Unconscious Patient

  • Revision of anatomy, vital symptoms, essential terminology
  • Pronouncing numbers and fractions
  • Describing vital monitoring ( ECG, BP and ventilation)
  • Team workshop
  • Role play simulation activities

The Conscious Patient

  • Key diagnostic questions
  • How to characterise pain
  • How to characterise various key symptoms and pre-existing conditions
  • Practice taking a patient history

Logistics

  • Revise administrative and transport terminology
  • Taking down numbers, codes and key information
  • Revise medical shorthand
  • Revise the international alphabet.
  • Discuss patient transfer scenarios

Team Communication Skills

  • Checking for understanding
  • Imposing conditions
  • Rejecting suggestions
  • Transmitting diagnostic and treatment information to a receiving medical team and groundstaff.
